Uber forays into auto-rickshaw services, introduces UberAUTO in India

Uber, the popular mobile-app-based transportation network, today announces its foray into the auto-rickshaw aggregation space. Called UberAUTO, the San Francisco-headquartered company is debuting it at Delhi. With UberAUTO, folks in India’s capital city will be able to book tickets via a swipe on their phone. This is the first time Uber has brought auto-rickshaws -- a transportation medium widely popular in India -- onto its platform.

The announcement comes a week after Uber was spotted testing a new auto-rickshaw aggregation service in Delhi. Users will be able to take a ride and pay the driver through the in-app UberAUTO option. UberX lands in hot water with Philadelphia Parking Authority

Uber’s low-cost ride sharing program UberX launched in Philadelphia this weekend, but not without attracting the ire of the notorious Philadelphia Parking Authority. The agency claims UberX is operating illegally within the city, and has threatened to shut the service down.

Despite these threats, those looking for UberX rides in Philly will be hard pressed to find one. Uber ran a promotion for free rides up to $20 through the service to celebrate its launch, and through much of the weekend UberX showed no cars available.

Uber is stealing drivers away from Lyft

Ride sharing startup Uber has been caught using "brand ambassadors" to steal drivers away from its biggest competitor, Lyft.
