Clinton Calls for Summit on Internet Security

Due to recent high profile attacks on popular Web sites, President Clinton called for a summit on Internet security Friday. Clinton, who is expected to call for more cooperation in the booming high tech industry, hopes to bring the Internet business community together to discuss the impending threat.
In a statement, Clinton said not to expect an "instantaneous solution" to the security issues, but stressed "we're doing all we can." In further comments, Clinton said the Internet has helped bring people closer together, but has also "made for greater vulnerability for people who are just mischievous." White House spokesman Joe Lockhart said that Clinton called the summit "to talk about what our overall long-term plan is" for dealing with the threat.
The University of California at Santa Barbara said Friday that its computer systems were used in one of the high profile attacks on CNN’s Web site.
