EarthLink Presses On in Spam Battle

EarthLink announced Wednesday that it has filed another round of lawsuits against spammers in California, Florida, Nevada, and Washington State in an effort to curb spam for its customers. The suits, filed in January, follow a successful courtroom win by EarthLink that shut down the "Alabama Spammers."
In a statement, assistant general counsel for EarthLink Larry Slovensky said that the company's actions were made in order to protect the entire Internet. "We will continue to pursue litigation, technical solutions, consumer education and legislative support to help ensure the quality of the Internet experience for all users," he said.
The lawsuits are for varying violations of the CAN-SPAM act. Earthlink charged Gregory Lars Alsing of Elk Grove, Calif., and Impression Media, in Las Vegas with fraudulent e-mails sent last year marketing cable descramblers and diplomas. According to the suit, Alsing and his company also intentionally tried to skirt EarthLink's spam filters.
EarthLink charged Craig Brockwell of Miami, and BC Alliance, of Sunrise, Florida of spamming customers with offers for printer ink and supplies.
Christina Reese, Angela Nickerson, a company known as YamboCS, and a collection of unnamed parties, all based in Redmond, Washington, are being charged with sending unwanted pornographic material to consumers.
Finally, Peter Moshou of Auburndale, Fla., and other unnamed individuals are charged with sending e-mails attempting to fraudulently acquire personal information by offering brokerage services.
