It's no joke -- LG G5 coming April 1
With top of the line specs, a metal build, and a modular design, LG's G5 is no doubt one of the hottest smartphones announced so far this year. Many consumers are looking to buy one, but, as you may know, the new flagship has yet to be released, despite being unveiled a month ago.
LG took the wraps off G5 right before Samsung announced its latest flagships, but, so far, only Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge have hit store shelves. That is about to soon change, however.
LG is using a new commercial, that it just posted on YouTube, to reveal that G5 will finally be available next month, starting April 1. "A world of play is coming April 1st", says the company in the video description. The same date is listed on the company's Facebook page, where it invites its followers to "Get ready to play on April 1st".
April 1 is a bit late considering that Samsung's rivals were released earlier this month in a larger number of markets across the globe. G5's release, however, might be a bit more complicated, seeing as its main differentiating factor, when compared to other flagships we saw at MWC 2016, is the modular design.
LG is offering customers the option to swap the speakers for a set of higher-quality ones, swap the battery, add camera buttons to the device, and more. And it is doing that through a range of modules, that it calls "Friends".
Those add-ons have to be ready in time for G5's release, otherwise there is no point in rushing out to buy G5 -- LG is likely waiting until it has everything in place for a proper release.
LG is not saying yet which markets will get G5 first. That information will likely come at a later date, and so will the complete pricing. To learn more about G5, read our coverage of the device.
Those who are interested in the 360 VR headset too should know that it will likely retail for $199 in US, according to this B&H listing. For comparison, Samsung' Gear VR costs half as much ($99).
