Get out of MacBook Pro (2016) dongle hell with HyperDrive Compact Thunderbolt 3 USB-C Hub
The MacBook Pro (2016) is quite possibly the most beautiful laptop ever created -- it is a work of art. It has a revolutionary new keyboard and a monstrous touch-pad. So it is perfect, right? Well, not for everyone. You see, it only has USB Type-C/Thunderbolt 3 ports, meaning you may need dongles to get work done. Need to connect an SD card? Dongle. HDMI cable? Dongle. USB Type-A? Dongle.
Obviously, everyone will be searching for one ultimate dongle that can do it all. There are many such adapters on the market, but many fall short of perfection. Over on Kickstarter, however, there is a new such product called "HyperDrive" that aims to be the only dongle you will ever need.
"We designed HyperDrive to feel like a natural extension of the 2016 MacBook Pro with similar product lines, thickness, right angled edges and rounded corners. HyperDrive is made of CNC precision milled aluminum available in both Space Gray and Silver to match the color and appearance of the MacBook Pro. We also wanted an adapter hub that users can leave on their MacBook Pro as they move around. As such we did away with connector cables and have HyperDrive connect right next and flushed to the MacBook Pro", says Sanho Corporation.
HyperDrive has two Thunderbolt 3 connectors, meaning it has more bandwidth than most single-port solutions. By using two ports, it should prove more sturdy when left connected too. As you can see below, it has pretty much everything a road warrior will need. It offers both SD and micro SD card slots, dual USB Type-A, HDMI out, USB-C, and Thunderbolt 3.
This would be a wise purchase to keep in a bag for emergencies. Even if you only need, say, an SD card dongle, why limit yourself to just that? This will meet many needs as they pop-up. It will cost $99 at retail, but early-bird pricing starts at $49, though that will be sold out soon. Ready to back it? You can do so here.
