Google integrates Keep into Docs and welcomes it to the G Suite fold
Google Keep may not be something that is used by a huge number of people, but that could be about to change. Google is finally doing something that should have happened from the start -- bringing Keep to G Suite to allow for integration with Docs.
The company has taken the decision to boost its notetaking app to a key member of its cloud app lineup. Google says that as well as being a G Suite core service when used within a domain, Keep notes can also be accessed from within Google Docs.
Announcing the change, the company says: "As of today, Google Keep is a G Suite core service when used within a domain, and it has been added to existing G Suite agreements for most customers. In addition, Keep is now accessible in Google Docs, so employees can easily revisit and repurpose their notes."
In a separate blog post, Google shares details of how the new integration can be used:
- Drag your notes from Keep directly into your work documents
- Easily search your notes in Keep while in Docs to find the information you need to complete your project
- Add a new note in the Keep notepad or select text from inside of your document and easily add it to a new note (just right click and select "Save to Keep notepad"). When you open that note in Keep, we’ll include a link back to the source document so you can always refer back to it
The integration only really works on the web. You can capture notes in Keep online as well as in the Chrome, iOS and Android apps, but you'll need to activate the Keep notepad via the Tools menu in Docs online to access your notes.
