Nintendo is ramping up Switch production

The Nintendo Switch has proved to be an incredible success for the Japanese company. Sales are far better than many predicted and, according to reports, production is about to be stepped up to meet demand.

Just three months after launch, the Financial Times says that production will be increased in preparation for the holiday season, with Nintendo hoping to avoid "customer tantrums" if shoppers are unable to get their hands on what is sure to be a huge seller in the latter half of this year.

The Financial Times emphatically states that "Nintendo [is] to ramp up production of Switch as demand soars," citing inside sources. The company is said to be aiming for a revised production run of 18 million consoles by March 2018, one year after launch.

Nintendo will be keen to meet a surge in demand, which will almost certainly come around Thanksgiving and Christmas. The company has already suffered shortages of the console in its short lifespan, and is seemingly looking to avoid the frustration that was caused by the discontinuation of the NES Classic -- something that will keep investors happy as the Switch continues to outpace the performance of the Wii U.
