Samsung Galaxy Note 8 will reportedly be revealed in August
The Galaxy Note brand is alive and well, as Samsung will be officially unveiling the new, hopefully non-exploding addition to the premium large-size smartphone line near the end of August.
That report comes from Reuters, which cited "a person familiar with the matter," as saying the official reveal will happen at a typical New York City Samsung event later this summer.
Of course, for the rest of time, no one will be able to utter the words "Galaxy Note" without invoking memories of every trip to a U.S. airport ever made in late 2016 and late 2017, where every boarding announcement of every flight included a warning about not being able to carry the Galaxy Note 7 onto any commercial aircraft.
Not to mention the glorious pictures of smartphone carnage, the (fake) video of Cee Lo Green's exploding Note 7, and the recall-mandated "return kits" that looked like something out of a post-apocalyptic movie.
There was some question as to whether or not Samsung would kill off that branding entirely moving forward. That will not be the case, as the Note name still exists as the biggest, most expensive smartphone line in Samsung's arsenal, and not even unprecedented FAA action was enough to strip away that cachet. And in some ways, the old adage of "no publicity is bad publicity" may apply, as the Note 7 unquestionably became the most infamous smartphone of all time.
Samsung will no doubt have to address this at some point when revealing the Note 8, as subtle as it may be. There will be an undercurrent to whatever details they announce about the battery, which is a standard feature to discuss in any event.
No further details about the Note 8, such as release date or pricing, have been confirmed.
