Microsoft: Mac Users, We're Listening

Microsoft announced at Macworld 2004 that it has listened to feedback from users of its Office 2004 for Mac suite and will be implementing those suggestions into the new enhancements unveiled Tuesday at the show.

The enhancements include an import tool to migrate data from Outlook 2001 for Mac to Entourage 2004, software updates to Entourage, a new version of MSN Messenger and new Office tools and templates. Microsoft also said it was working with Apple to ensure that Office integrates nicely with the new version of OS X dubbed "Tiger."

"Once we launch a product, our job as a developer doesn't stop. We spend an incredible amount of time talking to our customers," said Roz Ho, general manager of the Macintosh Business Unit at Microsoft.

Apple expressed support for Office, even though earlier in the day the company had unveiled its own office suite, iWork.

"Microsoft Office 2004 delivered many Mac-first and Mac-only features, and we're delighted to see that innovation continue with applications that will take advantage of the groundbreaking features in Tiger," said Ron Okamoto, vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations at Apple.

A new version of MSN Messenger to be released later in the first half of this year was also announced at the show. The update will have improved security, as well as the option to have personal and corporate messaging accounts in one location.
