There's no delay: iPad 2 event set for March 2

After a day where Apple's iPad was rumored to have been delayed by financial publication Bloomberg -- and then strongly refuted by noted Apple columnist John Dalrymple, a new rumor has surfaced: a date for the debut of the iPad 2.

Kara Swisher of AllThingsDigital said Tuesday afternoon that "multiple sources" are telling her that Apple plans to hold a media event on March 2, where the iPad 2 would make its first appearance. Details are scant, however Swisher says the unveiling would take place at the Yerba Buena Center in San Francisco.

The iPad 2 is widely expected to be thinner than its predecessor and include a front facing camera and FaceTime support. The device will also likely make use of Qualcomm's dual mode CDMA/GSM chipset to make it out-of-the-box compatible with both AT&T and Verizon's networks.

A rear-facing camera is also possible, and some have speculated the device may include a micro USB port. Others say that the company may move quickly to introduce the iPad 3 as soon as this September, which could be aimed with aligning the tablet device with the crucial holiday buying season.

In related news, the rumors Tuesday had taken a considerable toll on Apple's stock price. In late day trading the stock was off nearly 3.5 percent to its lowest levels in nearly three weeks.
