Ransomware attacks surge despite payments being down
The latest threat intelligence report from Ontinue finds a 132 percent surge in ransomware attacks, although ransom payments have declined by 35 percent, suggesting a shift in attacker strategies to double down on ransomware efforts.
Among other key trends, the report highlights the rapid rise of Adversary-in-the-Middle (AiTM) attacks, which have become a dominant method for stealing authentication tokens and bypassing multi-factor authentication (MFA).
Malicious emails bypass SEGs every 45 seconds
New data from Cofense shows one malicious email bypassing customers' Secure Email Gateways (SEGs) every 45 seconds -- up from every 57 seconds in 2023.
The report also highlights the rapid rise in Remote Access Trojans (RATs) and the evolution of credential phishing techniques that exploit trusted platforms. Remcos RAT emerged as the predominant malware, using methods to bypass SEGs with ease.
Enterprise mobile devices see increased attacks
A new report on the mobile threat landscape from Lookout reveals a 40.4 percent jump in mobile phishing attempts and malicious web attacks targeting enterprise organizations.
More than 80,000 malicious apps were detected on enterprise mobile devices. These threats can vary widely, from invasive permissions and riskware that pose significant compliance risks to sophisticated spyware capable of tracking devices, stealing data, eavesdropping on conversations and accessing the user' camera and microphone.
Cyber threat activity continues to grow in Q3
New data from managed security service provider Nuspire reveals large increases in overall threat activity in the second quarter of this year continued throughout Q3, with additional growth in both exploits and botnets.
There's been a 236.22 percent jump in Kryptik variants -- a type of trojan malware distributed to victims through phishing campaigns, the goal being to steal information, including cryptocurrency wallets, files and SSH keys.
New malware dispenses RAT droppings
A new javascript downloader named 'RATDispenser', distributing eight different Remote Access Trojans, keyloggers and information stealers has been uncovered by HP Wolf Security.
Most worrying is that RATDispenser is only detected by 11 percent of available anti-virus engines, meaning it's able to bypass detection tools and successfully deploy malware in the majority of cases.
Steam Deck is a Linux desktop trojan horse

With all of that said, Linux gaming is about to get much more possible. You see, Valve's new handheld gaming console is basically just a PC running an Arch Linux-based operating system. The OS is named "SteamOS" and it uses KDE Plasma.
