Opera 28 debuts bookmark sync, updates bundled themes
It’s been a feature of Firefox and Chrome for a while, but bookmark sync finally makes it way across to Opera FINAL 28, giving users of the Norwegian browser a convenient way to keep their bookmarks refreshed across all their devices.
The new feature isn’t restricted to desktop browsers either, with support for mobile platforms via Opera Mini for iOS as well as Android also implemented.
With this initial rollout, only bookmarks can be synced between computers and devices -- users will need to first create an account on one device before logging into that account on other platforms. Start by clicking the new Sync button to the far right of the Address bar and follow the prompts to set up an Opera account.
Opera promises that other data will be added to the sync platform over time -- we suspect it will be rolled out in phases rather than bundled into a single release.
Other changes in version 28 see bookmarks combined into the search suggestions when using the unified search and address bar. There’s also tighter integration with OS X on the Mac platform, with improved full-screen mode and a more “vibrant” address bar making their bow.
The update is rounded off with a new selection of bundled themes, comprising such options as Arctic Towers, Closed Canyon and Adventure’s Call. It also contains a large number of minor tweaks, improvements and bug fixes -- see the Opera changelog for a complete rundown.
In addition to adding support for sync, Opera Mini 10 on iOS also now pre-fills the address bar with previously entered domains to speed up web browsing.
Opera FINAL 28 is available now as a freeware download for Windows, Mac, Android and 64-bit Linux users. Opera Mini 10 is available for iPhone and iPad running iOS 7 or later.
