TiVo to Receive Web Video Content

Brightcove and TiVo said Wednesday that they had reached an agreement that would bring content from the video service onto Series2 TiVo boxes. Brightcove counts among its customers Farmers' Almanac, National Lampoon, Barrio 305, and Shipwreck Central.

The company provides tools to companies in order to allow them to publish and distribute video content on the Web. The deal with TiVo would now allow these publishers to showcase their content on television as well.

As part of the deal, both companies would bring in new content partners and download capabilities in the future. Initially, any content provided through the partnership would be free, and could include advertising.

However, TiVo and Brightcove said that eventually subscription or pay-per-view methods could be introduced.

"TiVo has revolutionized television viewing and Brightcove is bringing about major changes in consumer viewing of broadband-delivered video," said Tom Rogers, President and CEO of TiVo. "Through this new partnership, the process of delivering Internet based video to TiVo users will be significantly facilitated."

The content would be viewable from the Now Playing screen of the TiVo, the company said.
