iPhone silent movie app gets major Valentine's Day update, free
To celebrate the romance of Valentine's Day, app developers MacPhun LLC on Tuesday released a major update to Silent Film Director for iOS 4.2+ and have made it available for free.
What's so romantic about silent film? Maybe it's the fact that more of them were lost to history than survived, maybe it's the fact that you don't have to hear what the actors are saying to understand the message of the film. Whatever the reason, MacPhun picked a good day to roll out their new version of Silent Film Director.
(Of course, this is Tim Conneally talking...the guy who proposed to his fiancee at a classic film festival.)
At any rate, Silent Film Director is akin to the popular vintage camera filter apps, but is specifically for video, and it lets iOS users edit and alter their video footage to look like it came from hand-cranked film cameras from the 1920's all the way up to the earliest video cameras of the 1970's.
With today's update, users can now: set a variable video speed to simulate the imperfections of cranked film, switch to reverse mode, and shoot in 1,15 video speed (traditionally used in silent films for close-up scenes.)
Pro mode (accessible via in-app upgrade) now includes in-line editing features such as: split video, capture still frames from video, duplicate clips, and mirror flip video. Audio editing now includes the capability to include the video's original audio, to add a "retro" filter sound to sound or music, as well as the ability to fade music in and out.
