OnePlus One users in India to receive future updates from Cyanogen as companies resolve dispute
Indian mobile manufacturer Micromax and Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus have withdrawn their respective lawsuits against each other. As a result of this the flagship One smartphone will now resume the impending over the air update from Cyanogen Inc.
OnePlus announces that both the companies withdrew their respective lawsuits against each other through mutual consent. In a statement to BetaNews, OnePlus says that it will be working with Cyanogen to ensure that the OnePlus One Indian variant continues to receive updates from the software firm. These updates also include the next in line to CM 12S software version.
“We are happy to confirm today that all legal proceedings have been resolved and the cases have been withdrawn through mutual consent. We hate donning suits and ties anyways.”, the company notes on a blog post. “To make things sweeter, we would like to re-assure our customers and fans in India that our flagship phone, the “OnePlus One” will continue to receive OTA updates from Cyanogen in-line with our users in markets around the world.”.
The controversy began late last year when Cyanogen Inc partnered with Micromax to give the Indian manufacturer exclusive rights to sell Cyanogen software-powered smartphones in the country. The two companies announced this collaboration just a day ahead of the launch of OnePlus One in India. Micromax launched CM 11-powered Yu Yureka in India mid-December.
Shocked by this "betrayal", Chinese startup noted at the time that it had made "major expenses for creating a brand exclusivity to Indian customers mobile phones with Cyanogen operating systems" and it will "suffer irreparable harm and loss if the defendants are permitted to continue with their illegal acts in violation of the agreement between Micromax and Cyanogen".
Days after the announcement, OnePlus assured Indian users that it would be launching a new Android-based operating system for them. Earlier this year, the smartwatch manufacturer released OxygenOS, an Android Lollipop-based operating system for the Indian variant of One.
Interestingly, while the company made OxygenOS available to One’s Indian variant, Cyanogen surprisingly rolled out CM 12S -- the latest update to its Android build -- to Indian users.
