Kohl’s combines charge card and Yes2You Rewards into a single Apple Pay experience
One of my favorite places to shop is Kohl's. Now, I have many reasons, but primarily, I like its selection of affordable "Big and Tall" clothing. Yes, I'm a fat guy. Most of my wardrobe is bought there, including, quite often, my sneakers too. Heck, they even sell wonderful home goods, such as towels, coffee makers, and picture frames to name a few. It is a great "one-stop-shop".
An annoying thing about the Kohl's shopping experience, however, is carrying two cards for the retailer. You see, the company offers a charge card -- which is often required for the discounts -- plus a loyalty card for building rewards. I've often wondered why they do not just combine them. Starting today, thanks to Apple Pay, you can leave both cards at home, and get the benefits with just your iPhone.
"Customers are now able to pay for their purchases with Kohl's Charge and simultaneously earn Yes2You Rewards loyalty points with a single tap using Apple Pay. The service is currently available in approximately 250 Kohl's stores and is expected to be in all Kohl's stores nationwide later this month, making Kohl's the first retailer to deliver a one-tap checkout that integrates both its private credit card as a form of payment and successful loyalty program with Apple Pay", says Kohl's.
Ratnakar Lavu, Kohl’s chief technology officer says, "Kohl's is blending the physical and digital shopping experiences in more ways than ever before. Offering conveniences to Kohl’s customers that make it easy for them -- like a seamless one-tap checkout in Apple Pay that integrates our value-driven Yes2You Rewards loyalty program -- is one of the ways that we are leading as an omnichannel retailer. We are continuing to innovate in mobile to provide an easy, seamless shopping experience whether it’s our mobile payment offerings, the features and functionality on Kohl's mobile app or the Kohls.com experience on smartphones and tablets".
Unfortunately, the company's popular "Kohl's Cash" certificates will not integrate with Apple Pay. If you aren't familiar, these are old-school scannable pieces of paper that are redeemable on future purchases based on how much you spend. For now, those will continue to litter your purses and wallets. Hopefully Kohl's can work with Apple to bring those to the digital payment system too.
