Best Windows apps this week

One-hundred and eighty-six in a series. Welcome to this week's overview of the best apps, games and extensions released for Windows 8.x and Windows 10 in the past seven days.

Microsoft pushed out a Windows Store update this week that displays a prompt during the installation of large apps and games so you can choose the install location. The feature will be part of this Summer's Anniversary update.

This week has been rather slow in terms of new application and game releases.

As always, if I missed an app or game that has been released this week that you believe is particularly good, let me know in the comments below or notify me via email instead.

Discounts this week

The following discounts are provided by Red Stripe Deals, a weekly changing list of offers, and the Deals Hub application.

Microsoft did not update the list of deals at the time of writing.

App of the Week

The Blacklist: Conspiracy

blacklist

The Blacklist: Conspiracy is an adventure game that is based on the popular TV show The Blacklist.

You solve cases for the FBI in the game, and interact with popular characters of the show in the process.

The game itself can best be described as a "find in picture" type of game with added elements. You solve puzzles or interrogate people for instance besides playing the find game to proceed.

The game is clearly aimed at the casual market, and uses in-game monetization to generate revenue.

You only have a certain number of action points (which replenish over time) and stars which you need to visit new scenes or proceed in the game.

Other Apps

Easyscope

easyscope

Easyscope is an unofficial Periscope client for Windows 10 that has been released as a beta.

You are asked to sign in with a phone number to get started. The application supports live broadcast text and map search, but lacks features such as managing broadcast subscriptions or searching for accounts currently.

Still, since the official Periscope app is not available yet, this might be one to keep an eye on.

Roku

roku

The new Roku UWP application for Windows 10 requires a Roku Player connected to the same local network.

You can use the application as a remote control, to search for movies and related information, display photos, play music, or manage channels.

SiriusXM

A free 30-day trial is provided in the later case. The application provides access to SiriusXM channels, on demand access to the service's content, search functionality, and personalized recommendations.
