OnePlus 3T gets Midnight Black color option as new limited edition
When OnePlus unveiled an all-black OnePlus 3T, dubbed the "colette edition," I did not believe that this color option would be available again in the future. It was, after all, a limited edition. As it turns out, OnePlus had other plans. This is one of those times I'm glad I was wrong.
OnePlus just took the wraps off the Midnight Black OnePlus 3T, which, like the colette edition, is also a limited edition. However, unlike the previously mentioned model, OnePlus fans will have a better chance of getting one, as there will be more units offered and they will be more easily available.
The Midnight Black OnePlus 3T will first be offered through Hypebeast's online store, HBX, in a limited run of 250 units -- same as the colette edition. Sales will start on March 24, as 12pm EST, and will be open to consumers in US, Europe and Hong Kong.
However, OnePlus will also sell the Midnight Black model through its own online store. This too will be a limited run, as I'm told, but the number of OnePlus 3T units to receive this treatment will not be made public. So, if you won't be able to get one through HBX, you better keep an eye on OnePlus' online store for when the Midnight Black OnePlus 3T edition is available there.
There is more good news. Both HBX and OnePlus will sell the limited edition Midnight Black OnePlus 3T for $479 (€479/£439), which is the same as the 128GB version it is based on. The only difference is the color, based on the information that OnePlus has provided.
"OnePlus incorporates user feedback into the product development process like no other company. Our users have been asking for an all-black OnePlus 3T, so our team worked hard to bring them the most stunning OnePlus phone to-date in the OnePlus 3T Midnight Black," says Pete Lau, founder and CEO of OnePlus. "This new version of our most successful phone so far combines powerful hardware, fast and smooth software and the finest attention to detail."
OnePlus says that it's tested over 30 color iterations to come up with the current Midnight Black design. The coating is 14 microns thick and is said to maintain the "natural look and feel" of the aluminum body. To keep fingerprints off, there is a special layer applied on top.
