Samsung Galaxy S8 pre-orders surpassed Galaxy S7 by a large margin
Samsung appears to have hit a home run with its latest flagships. The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ are expected to sell over 50 million units in a year and, according to the South Korean maker, they're on the right track, with pre-orders far exceeding those of the Galaxy S7 series.
The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ were offered for pre-order on the same day that Samsung unveiled the devices, March 29, and officially went on sale across the globe last week, on April 21.
The pre-order stats come from Samsung Electronics America president Tim Baxter, who says that the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ have recorded "more than 30 percent year-over-year growth in preorders versus the record preorders [Samsung had with Galaxy S7]." This is the "best ever" performance.
This is in line with what Samsung president of mobile communications Koh Dong-jin said earlier, announcing that "Initial market response [...] is better than expected."
Baxter doesn't say which of the two flagships has seen more pre-orders, but according to Yuanta Securities the Galaxy S8+ is well positioned to outsell its smaller sibling, by around seven percentage points.
In a year, the Galaxy S8 should account for 27.1 million units of the 50.4 million units the Galaxy S8 series is expected to sell. The forecast cites the larger display and extra storage option (128GB) as two of the main reasons why it'll record better sales than the Galaxy S7.
