Leaked images show Microsoft is ready to take on Amazon Echo with Windows 10 HomeHub
While we've heard about the HomeHub feature of Windows 10 before, we've not seen what it might look like in practice. Now, thanks to a series of leaked images, that all changes, and it shows that Microsoft is ready to take on Google Home and Amazon Echo with its own devices.
Like the Amazon Echo Show, the leaked images depict a device with a screen. It's running Windows 10, supports voice-activated Cortana commands, and it's something that Microsoft clearly wants to be at the center of future smart homes.
But while rival devices are just that -- standalone devices -- Microsoft's offering is a Windows 10 PC, albeit a very small one. The Verge reports, along with sharing images of the device, that Microsoft is aiming to bring HomeHub to Windows 10 in September, and it will feature a welcome screen, shared desktops, shared calendars, voice-calling and more.
As this is something destined for the smart home, there's support for a range of smart devices, including those from Hue, Nest, Insteon, Wink and SmartThings. Microsoft is thought to have been working with HP and Lenovo to produce all-in-one PCs with a HomeHub focus, and it's possible we'll learn something more at BUILD this week. More likely, however, is that more will be revealed at the forthcoming event in Shanghai on May 23.
