StarTech releases four new USB-C hubs with power delivery for Windows, Mac, and Linux
While USB-C is certainly the future, there is one big issue with the connection type -- we live in the present. In other words, yeah, having Type-C connections on a computer is great for future-proofing, but most consumer devices still use the Type-A connector. If you buy a computer that only has USB-C, such as the newest MacBook Pro, you are going to need dongles for your existing peripherals and accessories.
Luckily, there is no shortage of dongles and adapters on the market nowadays. If you spend some money, you can get something that will meet your needs. Today, StarTech releases four new USB-C hubs, all with unique functionality. What they all share, however, is the ability to do power delivery. This means you can connect your USB-C charger to the hub, which then connects to the computer, so that a single port can both charge and handle data.
"Any user of USB-C or Thunderbolt 3 enabled laptops will find the new hubs useful for expanding ports, but they are made with the mobile professional in mind. Mobile professionals work in many different environments (offices, at home, shared workspaces and BYOD) so they require devices that travel well and serve multiple functions. The new USB-C hubs allow professionals to easily connect to their phones, tablets, additional storage devices and even to a wired connection, all while being able to fit in a laptop bag," says StarTech.
The company shares the following details about all four new models.
2-Port USB-C Hub with Power Delivery (SKU: HB30C1A1CPD) $53.99
- Ultra-compact and sleek design to match the MacBook finish
- Extended USB-C cable for more flexibility
- USB-C downstream port which supports data (device connection) or pass through Power Delivery
3-Port USB-C Hub with Power Delivery (SKU: HB30C3AGEPD) $71.99
- Three USB-A ports
- Gigabit Ethernet port
3-Port USB-C Hub with Power Delivery (SKUs: HB30C3APD/HB30C3APDW) $60.99
- Three USB-A ports
- Available in black or white
- Extended USB-C cable length of 34 cm for added flexibility
4-Port USB-C Hub with Power Delivery (SKU: HB30C4AFPD) $64.99

Ultimately, you will need to decide which model best meets your needs. If you have a need for Gigabit Ethernet, for instance, there is only one model that you should target. If you don't need hard-wired networking from your hub, the other three should be on your list -- just pick the number of Type-A ports you desire.
