Samsung Chromebook Pro available to pre-order now
Samsung unveiled two Chromebooks capable of running Android apps at CES 2017. The first to be available was the less expensive -- and less powerful -- Chromebook Plus, which arrived in February, while the more costly -- and more powerful -- Chromebook Pro was said to arrive sometime this spring.
And it looks like it will, indeed, be in customers' hands by the end of this month, as the Chromebook Pro is now available to pre-order on Amazon, with an estimated release date of May 28. Hey, that still technically counts as spring.
The Chromebook Pro can be had for $549.99, which is $100 more expensive than the $449.99 Chromebook Plus. For the money, you get a more powerful processor, an Intel Core m3 clocked at 0.90Ghz as opposed to an OP1 ARM processor that ships with the Chromebook Plus, and seemingly nothing else.
As we reported back in January, most specs are shared within the two Chromebooks. It will be interesting to see how much of a difference the x86 processor makes over the ARM option in the less expensive model. It may seem disappointing that the bump in processor is the only difference, but that's just the way it is.
Both have a 12.3-inch touchscreen display (3:2 aspect ratio) with a resolution of 2,400 by 1,600, 4GB of RAM, 32GB eMMC storage, two USB Type-C ports, microSD card reader, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, and a weight of 1.08kg (2.38lbs).
