Flo announces its sophisticated new water leak sensor
Water seems an innocuous element; we bathe in it, swim in it, wash things with it, and drink it. We even use it to generate power. But water is not a friend to your home. It can cause damages that can run into a lot of money, and it's not just rain water that undermines your foundation, but leaks as well. If you've ever had a pipe burst then you know what it can do.
Today home automation company Flo Technologies announces its latest offering to help protect consumers. Flo is a comprehensive water monitoring and shut-off system that has some noticeable improvements over the technology we have been using.
What's new? Instead of using just water flow rates, it also factors in pressure for better results. Pressure and flow allows detection up to one drop per minute, it works throughout the home, checks the system constantly and takes action if a problem is detected. It's able to tell the difference between a toilet flushing, a faucet being left on, or a burst pipe, and can tell the difference about what's going on, such as just a toilet overfilling.
"The technology and preventive approach of Flo are a step change for the industry, which typically relies on moisture sensors or flow measurements to identify problems, after water has caused damage or been wasted," the company says.
The product will be available in the first quarter of 2018 for $699. It's not cheap, but it can save you much more -- in fact water damage costs roughly $9 billion per year. If you adopt it early you can save some money, as the program will let you in for $399. You can go here to sign up.
