SIOS updates its machine learning solution for virtual environments
Since the launch of its machine learning tool for IT analytics last year, SIOS Technology Corp has released regular updates to help maximize the availability and efficiency of virtualized environments.
New features in SIOS iQ 3.5 deliver greater accuracy and precision in capacity utilization and performance analysis for VMware environments. It also includes dashboard enhancements for improved usability and a 'graphical topological impact' view to enable faster identification and resolution of issues.
Lack of expertise passes security as top cloud challenge
The latest State of the Cloud report from cloud management specialist RightScale reveals that a lack of resources and expertise is now the top cloud challenge -- cited by 32 percent of respondents.
This means it has overtaken security, mentioned by only 29 percent. Even the most security conscious respondents -- enterprise central IT teams and security pros -- no longer see security as their main challenge.
Microsoft Azure now lets you backup VMware instances
Microsoft has launched an enhanced version of its Azure Site Recovery (ASR) targeted especially for VMware customers.
The ASR concept allows you to backup virtual machines into the Azure storage, update them and then run the VMs in Azure as a disaster recovery option. Microsoft charges $54 a month per VM instance stored in Azure, but doesn’t pay any compute or storage costs until you run the VM, which would make sense as it is only a file until the VM is spun up.
Intel Security and AirWatch team up to boost mobile protection
Intel Security has expanded its partnership with VMWare’s enterprise mobility subsidiary AirWatch, placing a greater emphasis on mobile security initiatives.
The two companies aim to help organizations cope with the numerous security issues posed by mobile devices, as well as integrating enterprise protection across PCs, operating systems, networks and the cloud.
VMware backs out of Virtustream venture, leaving EMC on its own
VMware, the US cloud software company, said it will not participate in the joint venture cloud services Virtustream with its parent company EMC.

VMware warns Amazon AWS plugin may lead to vendor lock-in
VMware is locking horns with Amazon Web Services (AWS) over the latter’s decision to implement a new hybrid cloud connector that VMWare warns is a dangerous precursor to vendor lock-in.
A blog post from VMware’s CTO Chris Wolf explained that the recently released AWS Connector for vCenter, a plugin that allows AWS cloud services to be run inside VMware-designed environments, will create significant complications down the line.
