Bringing Bio-Security to the Real World

Do you ever get tired of typing in passwords, or pin numbers for ATMs? Do you have a network that requires very high security, and continually
changing passwords, or feel that passwords are just not secure enough? New products from a company called Identix may help bring Bio-Security from the pages of science fiction to the keyboard of your PC.

Identix features a suite of 'bio-oriented' security products, including BioLogon, a server/client program that eliminates the need for network passwords in a Windows NT environment. This is done through a server program that enables network administrators to choose between password, finger tip,
or smart card authentication, or even all three. The product priced at $899 USD, per 25 users, is highly flexible and integrated into the Windows NT
operating system. The client version retails at $39.95 USD and is usable without the server version for stand alone, non-network passwords.

Finishing up development are Ientix's new products, BioShield and BioSafe.
These two biometric security programs allow "one touch biometric authentication
to encrypt files or folders, lock applications, create secure information packages
for e-mail attachments delivery, and replace passwords in applications." The two
product are to be released in a security pack priced at $69.99 USD.

The following is from the press release:

BioShield protects applications, menus, or buttons, and automates
repetitive typing -- all with the touch of a finger. BioShield can be configured to
remember dozens of passwords and automatically insert them, as required when
the correct user is authenticated. BioSafe has the aspects of a real-world safe where one can keep data secure for a single user or shared among a predefined workgroup. Easy to create, a
'safe' can be made into a package and attached to an e-mail for secure transfer
to non-BioSafe users. BioSafe secures laptops, locking and unlocking data
with fingerprint authentication at shutdown and logon.
