CuteZIP Beta Launched

Many of you may be wondering, "Why the heck do I need another archive application?" You don’t. You only need one. CuteZIP can compress/decompress CAB, ZIP, TAR, PAK, GZIP, can decompress RAR and ARJ archives, and make fine sounding MP3s as well.

CuteZIP is not your average archive application. CuteZIP has a revamped interface which makes opening several archives at once seem like child’s play, 128-bit Twofish encryption, multiple unzip support and a relatively unseen feature in most all archive clients - a fully featured CD ripper/encoder.

CuteZIP has taken the interface of most archive applications and tweaked them, giving the program a Windows Explorer sort of feel. You can also open multiple archives in one instance of CuteZIP and access the archives via the tabs near the bottom of the window.

While CuteZIP supports the standard archive encryption that all archive clients use, it also supports 128-bit Twofish encryption. If the recipient of the archive does not use CuteZIP or have a Twofish decrypter, CuteZIP can make a self-extracting encrypted CAB or ZIP archive.

CuteZIP also sports a feature that is not included in the most popular archive programs – even their newest private beta versions - multiple unzip support. This means you can select as many ZIP, CAB, RAR or just about any other archive, and extract them to a single folder via a right-click context menu.

Now for CuteZIP’s dirty little secret. Pop your favorite audio CD into your CDROM drive, fire up CuteZIP and then click the "Rip Audio" button on the taskbar. CuteZIP uses the free Blade Encoder (which, unfortunately, has to be downloaded separately), and can create MP3 files ranging from 32 to 320 kBit/s. CuteZIP also supports the brand new CDDB 2.0 standard and many technical features you would expect in a popular MP3 creation program.

CuteZIP is a great archiving program; it does everything the current market dominator WinZip does, and even some things better. Not to mention it supports more than just ZIP and CAB extensions, has 128-bit encryption, a Windows Explorer-like drag and drop interface, and can make MP3s from your favorite CD. The only thing that will keep CuteZIP from attaining a market share as vast as WinZip, is what holds every other archiver back - its name. WinZip is engraved in just about everybody’s mind that uses Windows. The casual downloader may not appreciate CuteZIP’s advanced features and multiple archive support. So, unless GlobalSCAPE can get the word out about CuteZIP everywhere possible, you-know-who will continue to dominate.

Due to restrictions on the export of cryptography, only citizens and permanent
residents of the U.S. and citizens of Canada are eligible to download CuteZIP.
