Streamwaves, Uplisters Link For Music By Subscription

Two online music start-ups - Streamwaves of Dallas,
Texas, and Uplister, Inc., of Oakland Calif. - said today that they
will team up to deliver streaming music on demand to members of
Uplister's song recommendation community.

Streamwaves, which last month announced a groundbreaking music
licensing deal with record company EMI, will allow Uplister users
to tap in to its planned subscription-based service, which it says
will eventually encompass recordings from other major labels in
addition to EMI.

The companies did not reveal what fees Uplister users will pay to
access the service. Streamwaves has yet to officially set a price
for its own on-demand streaming music service - which will be
available through its own Web site - although reports have
suggested the company is pondering a monthly payments fee ranging
from $10 to more than $20, depending on what content is eventually
available from major record labels.

Uplister's users download a special application they use to create
and publish "playlists" describing their favorite music. Users can
view each others' recommendations, but, currently, can play only a
short sample of each track.

Uplister says future versions of its software could also help users
find music to purchase online, and is expected to incorporate the
on-demand selection from Streamwaves sometime in the first
quarter of 2001.

"Uplister provides Streamwaves with a link into an active online
community that reflects the constantly evolving collaboration of
actual music experts," Streamwaves CEO Jeff Tribble said in a
statement.

Said Uplister Toni Schneider, "Uplister is making the playlist the
next unit of global music consumption. We will continue to work
with partners to aggregate their content and provide users with a
choice of numerous music consumption options."

Streamwaves is continuing to seek licensing deals with all
top-five record companies, which, in addition to EMI, are Sony
Music, Universal Music, Warner Music, and BMG.
