Fixed Windows 2000 Update Released
Microsoft issued an update to its final Update Rollup for Windows 2000 on Tuesday, correcting issues with the initial release. While there seems to be yet more glitches still not fixed, the company says those will be addressed in individual patches.
The re-released Update Rollup comes on Microsoft's normally scheduled Patch Tuesday, which was to include a fix for a critical vulnerability that affected Windows, but it was scrapped due to a "quality issue."
"Microsoft is committed to only releasing high quality updates that fix the issues in question, and therefore we feel it is in the best interest of our customers to not release this update until it undergoes further testing," a Microsoft spokesperson told BetaNews at the time.
The issues addressed in the rollup update are bugs in accessing Windows Update, issues related to restarting Windows 2000, dynamic disk drive issues, and problems related to saving a Microsoft Office file to a floppy disk.
No announcement has been made regarding a rescheduling of the critical security update, although traditionally Microsoft only releases patches once a month. An update could come in the interim if Microsoft feels that the issue is urgent and customers are at risk.
