Discovery Offering TV Shows on iTunes

Discovery Communications announced on Tuesday that it had added programming to the iTunes Music Store, Including television shows from its TLC, Animal Planet, Travel Channel, Discovery Health Channel and Discovery Kids networks.

Available shows include the "World's Best" travel series from the Travel Channel, "Amazing Babies" from Discovery Health, "Kenny the Shark" from Discovery Kids, "Mythbusters" and "Extreme Engineering" from Discovery, and "Most Extreme" from Animal Planet, among others.

Additionally, the network would provide video vignettes from Discovery's "Deadliest Catch" as well as TLC's "Shalom in the Home." While the short clips will be provided free through ITunes' podcast feature, full episodes would sell for the standard $1.99 USD per download fee.

"Wherever they are and whenever they want, consumers can use the iPod to learn and be entertained with Discovery's content about people, places, cultures, science, health and much more," Discovery's senior vice president of strategy and development Don Baer said in a statement.

The launch of videos on iTunes continues an effort by the entertainment company to expand its reach into the digital marketplace. Discovery is in the process of launching broadband video channels, and will begin offering a mobile phone video service in the third quarter of next year.

With the addition of the Discovery channels, programming from over two dozen networks is now available through the video section of iTunes.
