Imeem pens deal to bring MTV content to its service

Clips and television episodes from the Viacom division's broad lineup of cable networks will start to appear on imeem in February.

MTV Networks will be the first media company to strike such a deal with the social media provider. Among the cable channels included would be Comedy Central, MTV, Logo, VH1, Spike, and others, as well as content from its online media properties.

Users would be able to access the content at no charge, imeem said. Users would also be able to add the videos to their personal profiles or personal playlists. Each brand would also have its separate channel on the service, and users would be able to build communities around.

This announcement wouldn't be the last either. The service said it was working to strike similar deals with other networks as well in an effort to make the service the premier destination for online video.

"Adding MTVN is an important step towards that goal," marketing chief Steve Jang said in a statement.

Right now, imeem includes content from the four major labels, promotional material from Showtime, The CW, and NBC, and promotional and full length movies from several movie studios.
