Ashampoo Anti-Virus 2014 now available

German software developer Ashampoo has released Ashampoo Anti-Virus 2014 ($39.99), a full-featured antivirus tool which combines the Bitdefender and Emsisoft engines to help keep you safe online.

The package offers all the core functionality you’d expect from a modern antivirus package: real-time protection, on-demand scanning, behavioral monitoring, browsing protection and more.

You also get plenty of bonus features, with tools to manage startup programs, securely delete files, view Winsock layers, search for suspect NTFS alternate data streams, examine your HOSTS file, and clean your web tracks in all the main browsers.

All of this is presented in a clean and straightforward interface. Large buttons give easy access to the main Ashampoo Anti-Virus features; you can be launching a scan, or running one of the many bonus utilities in a couple of clicks; and there’s even a second "Dark" skin if you prefer another look.

Performance didn’t seem exceptional, at least on our very first tests. Even the Quick Scan seemed to take a while, and there were a few more false positives than we expected.

Still, this is only version 1.0.0.0, so it’s no surprise that some tuning might be required. Any issues seem minimal, though, and on balance Ashampoo Anti-Virus 2014 seems to already be a very capable tool. The program can be yours for $39.99, and a 10-day trial version (which can be further extended to 40 days if you give them your email address) is available now.
