Microsoft signals HTC may launch new Windows Phones
Microsoft could renew its partnership with HTC in order for a more diverse range of handsets to be available on the Windows Phone platform.
Nick Parker, head of Microsoft’s OEM division, told a packed press conference at Computex that HTC could soon be back in the Windows Phone fold, according to CNET.
"I'd love to break some news here if I could", said Parker, after being asked about device partners. "But instead I'll just say that Microsoft will continue to have a great relationship with HTC. New things are coming, so get excited".
The hint at HTC’s return comes just a few days after a Tweet from @evleaks suggested that HTC is ready to launch a Windows Phone 8.1 device known as W8 that will first see the light of day on Verizon’s US network in Q3 2014.
In terms of a device specification, it’s rumoured that it will have HTC BoomSound as well as Duo cameras, and rumours of it being a One M8 replica are unfounded as it will reportedly be a mid-range handset taking advantage of Windows Phone 8.1 on-screen button support.
HTC has released a clutch of Windows Phone devices in the past and among the most recent ones is the HTC Windows Phone 8X that saw the light of day in late 2012 with a nice mix of features that presented Windows Phone fans a further choice at the higher end of the Windows Phone selection.
Parker used the same press conference the unveil a range of other manufacturers that are also designing Windows Phone devices including low-cost phones from the likes of Prestigio, InFocus, Yezz and a handful of others that were all on display.
