Amazon Dash Button arrives in the UK to cater for the terminally lazy

Amazon Dash Button is now available in the UK. For anyone who finds logging into their Amazon account to place an order for everyday things like loo roll and coffee difficult, this physical button (thought by many to be an April Fool a couple of years ago) does the 'hard' work for you.

Available exclusively to Amazon Prime members, the Amazon Dash Button is available for a number of top brands and is (effectively) free. Amazon describes the button as "the Wi-Fi-connected device that conveniently reorders your favourite products with the simple press of a button", but it's hard not to see it as a product that panders to the terminally lazy and those under the illusion that their time is the most valuable.

While the Dash Button costs £4.99, Amazon says that customers will receive £4.99 off their first order, immediately negating the cost. Amazon brags that the likes of Andrex, Ariel, Brabantia, Finish, Gillette, and NESCAFÉ are already on board. Announcing the UK launch, Amazon says:

With Dash Buttons, Prime members never have to worry about running out of everyday essentials, including cleaning supplies, pet food, laundry products and more. When a customer sees supplies running low, they simply press a Dash Button to order an item -- making it easier than ever to restock essentials at the exact moment they realise more is needed.

The company is also launching the Amazon Dash Replenishment Service in the UK. This enables device manufacturers to tap into the IoT and add a re-order function into their devices. Printer manufacturers could add the option to automatically order ink when it runs low, washing machines could order detergent, and so on. You will, of course, have to buy new, compatible devices to take advantage of this, and make sure that you don’t change your mind about the detergent you use...
