Android Pay now supports Google Chrome, Chase cards, and Uber Payment Rewards

Cash is dumb. No, I do not necessarily mean stupid; I mean it is not "smart" from a technology standpoint. Understandably, some folks like the idea of paper money as it allows their honest transactions to occur below the radar, and for a privacy standpoint, I understand that. However, cash also assists people that commit crimes, such as drug dealers -- and that is not cool. Once all monetary transactions are digital, and cash no longer exists, law enforcement will have an easier time tracking illegal transactions, while honest folks can more easily track and budget their finances.

Digital payment systems, such as Samsung Pay and Apple Pay are paving the way for a cashless society. Google's Android pay is also part of the push, and today, it is getting even better. Not only is it adding many new banks to the program, such as Chase, but it is also adding support for mobile Google Chrome and Uber's Payment Rewards program.

"It's with great delight that we welcome Chase, one of the largest banks in the US, to the Android Pay family. Starting today, Android Chase customers can add their eligible Chase Visa cards like Freedom, Slate, Sapphire, United Mileage Explorer and Hyatt Credit Card to Android Pay. Customers will be able to enjoy the same benefits and protections they’re used to getting with their Chase card -- while making contactless purchases in stores and apps", says Pali Bhat, global head of Payments Products, Google.

Bhat further explains, "with Uber, we're excited to be the first mobile wallet to deeply integrate with their new Payment Rewards program, which allows users to unlock timely discounts. Starting today through October 15, all Android Pay users in the US can enjoy 50 percent off 10 Uber rides. No codes, no hassle -- just use Android Pay on Uber to get your discounted rides".

The really exciting news, however, is support for mobile Google Chrome on Android (as seen above). When you visit a compatible merchant on this version of Chrome, you can opt to make payments using Android Pay. While most online merchants do not accept Android Pay in this manner, obviously Google will hope this changes. For now, the search-giant lists Groupon and 1-800-Flowers.com as those that do accept it.

Android users, are you excited for these changes? Do you agree that cash is dumb? Tell me in the comments.
