MicFlip 2.0 reversible microUSB cable [Review]
USB Type-C has a number of benefits over older connectors, but the one that might appeal the most to the average Joe is its reversible design. This makes it easy to plug a cable in, as you no longer have to guess which way is up -- unlike, for instance, with microUSB. It's not a game-changing feature -- considering Apple's Lightning offered it years ago first -- but I think it's pretty damn close to it.
The problem is that, in order to enjoy that reversible design, you need devices that support USB Type-C. And, right now, not many of them do. However, there is a way to have your cake and eat it too. WinnerGear's MicFlip 2.0 gives you the best of both worlds: it has reversible microUSB and USB Type-A connectors, which means that you can use it without problems with the vast majority of smartphones and PCs.
First of, what does the second version of the cable add over the first? Well, there are two things new here: the connectors are said to be more durable and the USB Type-A one is also reversible (previously only the microUSB connector was).
I've tested the MicFlip 2.0 for a couple of months, with a range of devices and it has worked brilliantly. I would say it is the best USB cable I have tried so far, bar none. Why?
Because, on top of the novel connectors, it is also long (it measures 2m/6.6ft) and rugged. It's held up pretty well over the past couple of months, even though it's laid on the floor for most of that time; I've obviously stepped on it multiple times. My cats have also played with it, and there are no marks that I can see.
Now, how much does it cost? WinnerGear sells the cable for $19.99, which is, quite frankly, a lot for a USB cable. But, if you want the reversible connectors and the rugged design, it may be money well spent. I'm a fan.
