Back to School: Buy a Mac or iPad Pro and Apple will give you free Beats headphones

If you are a student or teacher, I hope you are having a fun and relaxing summer vacation. It can be very rewarding to just shut your brain off for a couple of months. Unfortunately, the new school year will be here before you know it. If you need new technology for the upcoming semester, such as a laptop or tablet, now is the time to start looking.

When shopping for technology items, it is always wise to look at Apple. The company's hardware is second to none, and both its iPad and MacBook products come with free iWork software for word processing, editing spreadsheets, and creating presentations. This software suite is brilliant for education. Best of all, for a limited time (until September 25), if you purchase a compatible tablet or computer from Apple, you can score some free Beats headphones!

As long as they are new and not refurbished, all of Apple's laptops and desktops are eligible for the promotion, with the exception of the lowly and oft-forgotten Mac mini. On the tablet front, only the "Pro" variants of the iPad are eligible. Not only are students able to take advantage of the deal, but some school faculty and parents too.

Mac buyers can save up to $299.95, while iPad Pro buyers are limited to $149.95. This means that Mac buyers can get any of the listed headphones for free, while the iPad Pro buyers can only get BeatsX at no charge -- they can also choose to get $149.95 off a more expensive set.

While Mac buyers will be tempted to opt for the more expensive Beats Solo3, that isn't necessarily the smartest move. You should pick the pair that will make you happy regardless of price. If you don't like on-ear headphones, go for the Powerbeats3 or BeatsX. It doesn't mean you are "losing money."
