New platform looks to plug gaps in enterprise security
When enterprises have a range of different IT systems and integrated supply chains it can lead to gaps in security coverage which are easily overlooked.
Fortress Information Security is launching a new Emerging Security Risk Management platform to provide an enterprise-wide visualization capability allowing organizations to spot and address gaps.
It creates a visual map across a company's information technology (IT), operational technology (OT) and their external supply chain connections to give a complete view of their cyber security vulnerability. Organizations can then mitigate vulnerabilities before they become points of attack.
"There is a cyber security challenge facing most companies that technology has not solved. That's the blind spot between departmental security initiatives that can create seams, allowing hackers access to corporate data," says Peter Kassabov, chairman and co-founder of Fortress Information Security. "By providing an integrated vulnerability solution covering all IT, OT and supply chain assets, organizations will be able to understand risks holistically and will no longer have blind spots in their cyber security defenses."
As an example of how it operates energy providers, for example, could use the visualization feature to group together all of the substation systems on their network. These asset groups could then further be classified by voltage output levels, management system vendor, or geography. So, if a breach occurs in a particular area or to a vendor partner, the vulnerability can be quickly isolated.
Without this grouping, security staff would not instantly know if a third-party vendor had been hacked or which internal systems might be affected by that hack, so they couldn’t move quickly to respond before it became a problem. In large networks with tens of thousands of systems and vendors, it could take hours to determine vulnerable systems without a grouping capability.
