Facebook Watch is now available right across the US

Facebook Watch may sound like it's going to be a cheap alternative to the Apple Watch, but it's really just Facebook's latest jump into video. Launched a month ago, Facebook Watch is now available to everyone in the US.

The initial launch was a limited one, and just last week the rollout expanded to a wider group of users. But now everyone in the US is able to see the Watch tab on desktop and mobile platforms, giving access to original video content.

Facebook's love of video is no secret -- you've probably noticed that just about every other post in your news feed is a video. But Watch sees a marriage between video and Facebook's other great love -- money. Videos attract advertisers, and advertisers means money. With Watch, Facebook gives content creators 55 percent of the ad revenue they generate, hanging onto the remainder for itself.

At the moment, the content that's available through Facebook Watch is a little limited, but it's clearly very early days. Over the coming weeks, months and years, you can expect to see Facebook cutting more deals with content creators in a bid to take on the likes of YouTube and even Netflix. For now, though, you'll have to put up with a bit of rubbish.
