Samsung unveils the more durable Galaxy S22 and S22+ with new cameras and AI tricks

Today is a huge day for fans of Samsung’s flagship Android smartphones. At its eagerly awaited Samsung Unpacked event, the South Korean tech giant took the wraps off the Galaxy S22 and S22+.

The two new phones have a "sustainably conscious design" and come with dynamic cameras with advanced intelligent image processing. They promise better night photography thanks to a 23 percent larger sensor and make use of Adaptive Pixel technology to improve high resolution photos.

Both devices have a powerful 50MP main camera, 10MP tele-lens, and 12MP ultra-wide lens shooters, and a new Auto Framing feature for video can detect and track up to 10 people and automatically adjust the camera’s focus accordingly.

A new AI Stereo Depth Map is designed to make small details appear crisp and clear, and Samsung says the new Portrait Mode will "prevent pet hair from blending into the background, so you always get the best shot of your pet."

"Our smartphone cameras have transformed the way we create, share, and communicate. Through photos and videos, we express ourselves and connect with the people we care about," said TM Roh, President and Head of Samsung Electronics’ MX (Mobile eXperience) Business. "That’s why we focused on designing our latest S series devices with groundbreaking camera capabilities that work day and night, powered by our best mobile performance yet."

Both devices come equipped with a Dynamic AMOLED 2x adaptive 120Hz display (the Galaxy S22 clocks in at 6.1-inches, while the Galaxy S22+ has a 6.6-inch screen).

The S22 offers all-day battery life and 25W fast charging, while the S22+ can last even longer than a day and has offers 45W super-fast charging.

Samsung Galaxy S22 and S22+ are available in Phantom Black, Phantom White, Green, and Pink Gold, and are made with Armor Aluminum, Samsung’s strongest aluminum frame to date. They are also the first smartphones to feature the new Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+ on the front and back, to safeguard the devices against accidental drops.

The new flagships are available in 128GB and 256GB models with 8GB RAM.

Pricing for Galaxy S22 will start at $799.99 and Galaxy S22+ will start at $999.99, with availability beginning February 25, 2022 through Samsung.com, carriers and retailers.
