Google makes it easier to test experimental features in Chrome
Just as Microsoft's Insider program gives a sneaky insight into the future of Office and Windows 10, so many web browsers have various preview versions that let eager users try out new features before their official release.
Chrome is one such browser, and in addition to the main release version, there are also Beta, Dev and Canary builds which are updated far more frequently. While these all get new features and options well before the main build, many are locked behind flag settings. But now Google is making it easier than ever to access new features that are being developed and tested in Chrome Labs.
Over $200 billion at risk if top brands suffer a data breach
A new report looking at the long-tail impact data breaches have on a brand's value shows that the world's 100 most valuable brands could lose as much as $223 billion from a data breach.
The study from IT consulting firm Infosys and brand consultancy Interbrand looks at the brand factors most impacted when a company suffers a data breach -- presence, affinity, and trust -- and simulates the resulting brand value at risk in the event of a breach.
Harman Kardon Invoke update will kill Microsoft Cortana support
Microsoft famously lost out on the mobile market when consumers largely rejected its Windows phones and embraced Apple and Google's offerings instead. This is a shame, as smartphones running Microsoft's Windows 10 Mobile were actually quite good -- they just lacked apps and third-party developer support. And so, Microsoft abandoned its mobile plans, ultimately embracing the Linux-based Android for the Surface Duo.
Following smartphones, the next big thing was voice assistants, and sadly, Microsoft lost there too, getting beat out by Amazon and Google. This is also unfortunate, as Microsoft's assistant, Cortana, was pretty great. Once again, however, consumers rejected it. And so, like Windows 10 Mobile, Cortana has been largely canceled, as the company slowly phases it/her out.
The viral 'TikTok feta pasta' is wildly popular, and Google can prove it
TikTok is where all the cool people spend their time online nowadays. If you haven't tried the app before, I highly suggest that you do. The service is extremely addictive, and you can easily waste hours scrolling through the short videos.
The TikTok service is relevant for all age groups and caters to many interests. Best of all, over time, the algorithm will learn your behaviors and more frequently present you with content you are likely to enjoy.
Microsoft's search engine Bing declares Prince Philip dead… but he isn't
I know it has its fans, but I’ve always found Microsoft’s search engine to be a bit, well, rubbish. Partly my views on it have been formed by years of using Google. I get the results I expect to see when I type something into that, but I don’t when I use Bing.
The UK’s Prince Philip has been in hospital recently -- which isn’t a huge surprise as he is 99 years old. He underwent a heart procedure on a pre-existing condition and is currently recuperating at King Edward VII’s Hospital in London. Doctors there say he’s doing well. Bing, on the other hand, has declared him dead.

Remote working continues to present a security problem for businesses and an issue that is often overlooked is the delay in patching browsers.
New research from Menlo Security looks at the importance of this issue for both desktop and remote users, focusing particularly on Google Chrome.

KB4601319 update is breaking File History backups in Windows 10
More complaints are starting to surface about the KB4601319 update for Windows 10. The cumulative update was released last month, and has already been found to cause problems with some webcams.
Now this same update has been found to lead to issues with File History backups. Windows 10 KB4601319 update was pushed to users of the May 2020 Update and October 2020 Update last Patch Tuesday, and it is causing backups to fail for a number of people with a 80070005 error.
Microsoft's new driver and firmware update deployment service is a sysadmin's dream
Microsoft has revealed a new deployment service for driver and firmware updates which will make it easier for administrators to keep enterprise systems up to date.
The company says that the new system will make it possible to see drivers hosted on Windows Update that match devices, as well as giving admins control over the selection and deployment of updates.
If you want to buy an iMac Pro, you'll need to move quickly
Anyone thinking about grabbing themselves a new iMac Pro needs to be fast in order to avoid disappointment. The much-loved system is only available to buy "while supplies last" as Apple is discontinuing the high-end computer.
As well as there only being limited numbers of units available, buyers are also only able to opt for the base model, and no personal configuration or upgrades are possible. What's more, it seems unlikely that there will be a replacement system once supplies run dry.
Razer releases Anzu smart glasses with Bluetooth audio and eye protection
Do you remember Google Glass? It was the search giant's attempt at smart glasses, but it failed spectacularly. Why? Well, they were ugly, overly ambitious, and had a camera that made people nervous. So, yeah, consumers really weren't ready to have a computer on their face.
Razer has some new smart glasses that consumers may actually want, however. Called "Anzu," they feature Bluetooth audio, eye protection, and the ability to summon a smart assistant. Best of all, they resemble regular glasses, so you won't look like a giant nerd -- the way Google Glass made its users appear. Anzu even comes with swappable sunglass lenses, so they can protect your eyes from the sun -- not just a computer monitor.
Essential points to know before implementing a cybersecurity transformation program
In light of the recent explosion of cyber attacks and the changes brought about by the pandemic, there appears to be a compelling need for cybersecurity transformation. Businesses have to update their cyber defenses or risk the possibility of falling prey to persistently sophisticated attacks.
Transforming an organization’s security posture, however, is not as easy as it sounds. It takes time, expertise, and resources. One bad decision or an inadequacy in the technologies employed will render the transformation useless. Things can even become worse than the previous state. To make sure that it yields the expected benefits, organizations need to do it correctly.
