Microsoft releases emergency fix for Azure Virtual Machines issue caused by Windows 11 update

When Microsoft released the KB5062553 update for Windows earlier this month, it addressed a number of issues in the operating system. However, it also caused problems with Azure Virtual Machines.
As such, Microsoft has been forced to publish another emergency patch to fix a problem caused by one of its own software updates. This time around, the out-of-band fix is the KB5064489 update, and it is available for both Windows 11 and Windows Server 2025.
Microsoft releases emergency fix for Windows 11 startup problems

Following the release of the KB5058405 update last month, Microsoft acknowledged that it was causing problems for some users. Affected users were left with startup issues and a warning of a 0xc0000098 error in the ACPI.sys file.
Now the company has released an out-of-band fix for the issue in the form of the KB5062170 update. Such is the impact of the original problem that Microsoft recommends installing this update in place of the May 2025 security update for Windows 11.
Out-of-band KB5020683 update for Windows 10 makes it easier to upgrade to Windows 11 immediately

The uptake of Windows 11 has been rather slow, almost certainly slower than Microsoft would have hoped. With Windows 10 users sticking doggedly to their slightly aging operating system, the company is seeking way to promote and simplify Windows 11 upgrades -- and with the KB5020683 update, it has done just this.
KB5020683 is an out-of-band update that Microsoft released recently to little fanfare. It has one aim: improving the out-of-box experience (OOBE) so users have the option to upgrade to Windows 11 immediately.
Microsoft issues emergency KB5016138 and KB5016139 patches for Windows 11 and Windows 10 to fix problems caused by Patch Tuesday updates

Microsoft has released two out-of-band updates, one for Windows 10 and one for Windows 11. The KB5016138 and KB5016139 updates address a problem caused by the June 2022 update released on the most recent Patch Tuesday.
The problem prevents some users from signing in with Azure Active Directory, with knock-on problems for various apps and services such as Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Teams and VPNs.
