Amazon updates Echo and Fire TV, brings the two closer together
In the time since Amazon launched its Fire TV and Echo devices the two have continued to receive updates steadily. Both are popular products with a growing following of customers and remain near the top of Amazon sales rankings.
Now the Fire TV has graduated to generation two, and with that update came integration with Amazon Echo. The company, at the time, promised to bring this functionality to the first generation version of the set-top box and now it is doing just that.
Also added to Fire TV is an improved way to use the Amazon video subscription service, claiming "an easier way to sign-up, discover and access your Amazon Video add-on subscriptions". There's also Bluetooth headphone support for the Fire TV Stick, something that was previously only been available for the set-top boxes.
As for Alexa, it's getting an update to play Spotify. You'll need to be a Premium subscriber though, something not required by Pandora. The streaming service is excited about the integration as it allows the potential for even more customers.
"We’re extremely pleased that Spotify Premium subscribers can now listen to their favorite music on Amazon Echo", says Ian Geller, Global Head of Hardware at Spotify. "Creating innovative experiences is core to our mission. We know our users will love controlling music with their voice at home".
One final thing for Echo -- you can now order your Domino's pizza using the device. The company wanted to get this out in time for Sunday's big game and it has scraped under the wire to meet that goal. Customers will need to take a couple of steps for this. You'll need to enable the Skill and then link it to your Domino's profile (yes, you'll need that as well).
Amazon points out a couple of examples of how this works -- "Alexa, open Domino's and place my Easy Order" or "Alexa, ask Domino’s to track my order".
All of these updates should reach your devices soon, or perhaps have already.
