LG G6 is a flagship smartphone with a 5.7-inch 18:9 display and impressive specs
If there is anything to be garnered from LG's unveiling of the G6 at MWC 2017 today, it is that the company learned a lot from last year's G5. While the G5 was a modular affair, the LG G6 gets back to basics and concentrates on being a decent flagship handset with a few interesting quirks.
In terms of specs, the G6 may not blow you away, but it still succeeds in standing out from the crowd, thanks in part to its display. The 5.7-inch screen has an aspect ratio of 18:9 (a resolution of 2880 x 1440), and the tall device is IP68 rated for waterproofing. But what else does the LG G6 have to offer?
This time around, LG has opted for a metal and glass design that houses a 3,300mAh non-removable battery. Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 means that just over half an hour of charging will power up the battery to 50 percent, and US models will include wireless charging. Google Assistant is available right out of the box, making this the first non-Google device to offer support, and there's a fingerprint reader on the rear.
Full specs for the LG G6 are as follows:
- Android Nougat 7.0
- 5.7in 18:9 2880x1440 Quad HD display at 565ppi
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor
- Adreno 530 graphics
- 4GB LPDDR4 RAM
- 32/64GB storage + microSD
- 13MP dual rear cameras, Wide (F2.4, 125°) / 13MP Standard OIS 2.0 (F1.8, 71°) LED flash
- 5MP front camera, Wide (F2.2 / 100°)
- 11 a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi
- Bluetooth 4.2
- 4G LTE
- Nano SIM
- 3,300mAh non-removable battery
- Wireless charging (US only)
- Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0
- IP68 water resistant
- 149 x 71.9 x 7.9mm
But for all of the specs, there's no denying that it's the screen that's king here. The 2:1 aspect ratio means that two apps can be run side by side in square windows, and the rounded corners give a nice, slightly retro look. Oh, and if you were wondering, yes, there is a 3.5mm headphone jack.
The LG G6 is due to launch in Korea in March, before spreading to the US in the first week of April, and Europe later the same month. It will be available in Ice Platinum, Astro Black and Mystic White, but there is no word on pricing just yet.
