Amazon extends Christmas shopping free shipping deadline -- no Prime needed

Christmas is quickly approaching. If you haven't finished shopping for gifts, what the heck are you waiting for? The longer you wait, the more anxiety you will feel about potentially not having presents ready to give on the big day. Thanks to the internet, you really have no excuse -- other than a lack of money -- to be empty-handed when visiting with friends and family this holiday season.

Speaking of online shopping, Amazon is one of the most popular such retailers. Quite frankly, I have done about 90 percent of my Christmas shopping on that site. I mean, can you blame me? Amazon has competitive pricing, a huge selection, and great shipping options. In fact, today, the company announces that it is extending its free shipping offer until December 16. This means you can have gifts delivered by Christmas at no charge if you place your order no later than tomorrow -- no Prime needed!

The Echo-maker explains, "Amazon today extended the deadline for free shipping to December 16 -- all Amazon customers can choose from millions of items that are eligible for free shipping and will receive their orders before Christmas. This includes eligible orders of $25 or more shipped by Amazon, as well as free shipping offers from the millions of small business and entrepreneurs selling on Amazon."

In addition to the December 16 deadline for free shipping, Amazon shares its full holiday shopping schedule -- including cut-offs -- below.

  • Dec. 16: Free shipping on millions of items fulfilled and shipped by Amazon, free for all customers
  • Dec. 18: Last day for standard shipping, free for Prime members
  • Dec. 22: Last day for two-day shipping, free for Prime members
  • Dec. 23: Last day for one-day shipping, free for Prime members
  • Dec. 24: Last day for same-day delivery, free for Prime members (order by 9:30 a.m. local time or earlier)
  • Dec. 24: Prime Now offers Prime members free two-hour delivery windows (order by 9:00 p.m. local time or earlier)
  • Dec. 24: Whole Foods Market stores and Amazon Books open Christmas Eve (store hours vary by location)
