Google unveils Jules Tools, its AI command line coding tool
Anyone who thought command line tools were in danger of being consigned to the history books, Google’s unveiling of Jules Tools put pay to that idea.
For anyone not familiar with Google’s offerings, Jules Tools is a command line interface for its Jules asynchronous coding agent. Google is hardly setting a trend here – there are command line interfaces available for other AIs – but with Jules itself only having launched in December, the speed is a little surprising.

Opera has announced plans to add expanded AI capabilities to its free browsers. The news comes just days after we wrote about Opera Neon, the company’s premium AI browser for power users.
Opera has been developing browsers for more than three decades and says it now serves hundreds of millions of active users every month. In recent years it has added a number of AI features to its products, starting in 2023 when it added its assistant Aria to Opera One, Opera GX, Opera Air (its "mindfulness" browser), Opera for Android and iOS, and Opera Mini.

Perplexity is the latest company to release an AI-powered web browser. Comet is available free of charge for Windows and macOS, and it is looking to compete with the likes of Opera’s Neon.
Comet is not brand new. It launches in July to a limited audience, but now its AI powers are being made available to everyone. But while there is much excitement from Perplexity about the launch, and excitement from users, there is also a warning from security experts.

The move is part of OpenAI's wider push to support families and to ensure the system works in a safe, age-appropriate way. Parents and guardians will be able to adjust settings, restrict features, and receive notifications if concerns about their teen’s well-being arise.

Suno Studio is an AI-powered audio workstation for artists and producers
Suno has launched Suno Studio, a generative audio workstation that combines professional multi-track editing with AI-powered stem generation.
AI generated music is a bit of a problem for the industry -- as proven by Spotify’s recent announcement that it will be clamping down on spammy tracks and artist impersonation -- but Suno Studio is being presented as a new way for songwriters, producers, and aspiring artists to create music.
Spotify removes 75 million spam tracks and introduces stronger AI rules
Spotify has removed more than 75 million spam tracks in the last year, a move it says is part of its response to the rapid growth of generative AI in music.
The audio streaming giant announced the figure alongside new policies to curb spam uploads, protect artists from impersonation, and give listeners clearer information about when AI tools are involved in a track’s creation.
iScanner introduces AI edge repair to fix stapled and damaged document scans
Scanning documents with staples, bent corners, or clipped edges has long been a hassle for people who rely on mobile apps for paperwork. A new feature in iScanner, called Edge Repair, is designed to take care of that issue. By applying AI directly on the device, the app can smooth out rough edges and rebuild missing parts of a page so the final scan looks as it should.
Instead of forcing users to trim staples or re-scan pages to avoid cut-off corners, Edge Repair works behind the scenes to identify what is missing and restore it pixel by pixel. The creators say it can handle folds, obstructions, or tilted pages, producing a clean version without requiring any manual fixes.

Meta reminds the world about Facebook Dating by launching new features
Facebook is primarily about staying in touch with people, but Facebook Dating is about starting relationships. Despite the rather older demographic that Facebook generally attracts, Meta says that “hundreds of thousands of young adults in the US and Canada create Facebook Dating profiles every month”. It is for these people that a dating assistant and Meet Cute feature are being added.
Grindr forces its own brand of AI on angry users
Having announced plans earlier this year to become an “AI native” company, Grindr has caused ire by introducing new gAI (its own artificial intelligence tech, pronounced “gay-I”) on an opt out basis.
Grindr users have been expressing anger in recent days as they encounter an in-app pop-up informing them that AI is now being used for a personalized experience. While it is possible to opt out of this – as many people want to do so – the company has been heavily criticized for not making this optional more accessible, and for opting everyone into using AI by default int the first place.
