New migration program helps enterprises move big data to the cloud
Many companies are keen to gain from the power of big data but struggle with the expense and operational complexity of expanding their on-premise systems.
Moving data to the cloud is the obvious solution but that too leads to issues surrounding migration. Big data-as-a-service company Qubole has partnered with software solutions specialist WANdisco to make the move easier with the launch of a Cloudera Migration Program.
"The big data industry is shifting from on-premise to cloud as the preferred deployment model, but many early Cloudera customers are stuck with a system that wasn't designed for the cloud." says Ashish Thusoo, co-founder and CEO of Qubole "Together with WANdisco, Qubole is offering the first fully packaged migration service to help companies experience the full benefits of big data in the cloud."
The Cloudera Migration Program is a packaged solution designed for companies that initially deployed Cloudera Express, Cloudera Enterprise or CDH on-premise and now want a quick and easy way to leverage the economies of scale offered by cloud.
It includes the Qubole Data Platform on AWS to run data processing workloads on Hadoop, Spark, Presto or Hbase, plus WANdisco Fusion to enable active data replication from on-premise to AWS S3. This can be done as a one-time process or run continuously for a hybrid deployment model. In addition it offers professional services for scoping, planning, design and migration of on-premise Cloudera deployments.
"The biggest challenges to cloud migration have been the downtime, potential data loss and resulting business disruption that often come with it," says James Campigli, co-founder and COO at WANdisco. "WANdisco's patented active-transactional replication technology offers the only solution that overcomes these challenges. By partnering with Qubole, we've created a unique new offering that allows customers to seamlessly move production data at petabyte scale from on-premise big data deployments to Amazon S3, enabling them to realize the full benefits of cloud without the pitfalls normally involved in getting there".
