Sling widens Windows Mobile support for remote TV viewing

The numbers of mobile users who can watch their TVs remotely has just grown larger, with an expansion by Sling Media in Motorola, Samsung, and other Windows Mobile devices supported by SlingPlayer Mobile.

After testing, Sling Media has announced nine Windows Mobile smartphones from AT&T, Verizon, and other suppliers that now meet the system requirements and work well with its SlingPlayer Mobile software for remote TV viewing. Free trials are available.

SlingPlayer supports Windows Mobile Pocket PCs and Palm and Symbian mobile devices, too.

The software also contains functionality that lets you check remotely to see what video has been recorded on to your home DVR.

On its Web site, where the newly supported phones are listed, the company "strongly recommends" use of the software with its Slingbox hardware using a 3G cellular or Wi-Fi connection to achieve the "optimal viewing experience."

The list of newly supported Windows Mobile smartphones is as follows: AT&T Pantech Duo: i-mate SP5M; HTC Excalibur; Motorola Q, Q9h, and Q9m; Samsung Blackjack; T-Mobile Shadow; and Verizon SMT5800.
