Nokia Adds Yahoo Services to Phones

Yahoo will soon be appearing on new Series 60 handsets from Nokia thanks to an agreement announced Tuesday. Nokia's Series 60 is the proprietary operating system for the Finnish company's smartphones, and one of the biggest competitors to the Windows and Palm smartphone platforms.

The agreement will allow users access to Yahoo e-mail and search, as well as an area where users will be able to download wallpaper, ringtones and games.

"Access to information, entertainment and the ability to stay in touch when and where you want is at the heart of our vision of a mobile connected life," said Harry Santamaki, vice president at Nokia Multimedia.

The first phones to have the Yahoo capability will be the 6680, 6681 and 6630 - all of which are only available in Europe. Nokia says more phones that will support the new service will be announced on Wednesday, although it was not mentioned if United States users will have access to Yahoo as well.

Nokia said that existing users of the above phone models will have the opportunity to update their phones with the Yahoo capabilities sometime in the second half of this year.
