TuneUp Utilities 2013 will get your PC in ship shape

TuneUp Utilities 2013, the latest edition of the supercharged PC cleanup and maintenance suite, is now available.

And while the new build doesn’t include any revolutionary additions, the suite has become significantly more powerful in a few areas, in particular with regard to hard drive cleaning.

The new TuneUp Disk Cleaner 2013 can detect and remove logs and leftover files from 28 Windows functions and more than 150 common applications, for instance, and the module can deliver impressive results. In our first tests CCleaner found 740MB of data to remove on a test PC, while TuneUp located 1.2GB on the same system (as well as 8.6GB of system restore points).

And the new TuneUp Browser Cleaner 2013 does a similar job with your Internet activity traces, thoroughly clearing more than 60 areas in Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, Opera and Safari.

Elsewhere, the new Live Optimization 2.0 technology aims to more intelligently optimise all your running processes for the best possible performance. Improvements here mean it’s now easier to suspend resource hogs, while new exception rules ensure that your most important programs will always have the maximum available power.

Other enhancements see smarter Registry and broken shortcut cleaners; the program’s 1-Click Maintenance tool employs all the new functionality for more thorough cleaning at a click; and every TuneUp Utilities 2013 module is now fully compatible with Windows 8.

And of course there’s still the same stack of useful features left over from the previous edition, with tools to defrag your hard drive, solve common Windows problems, customise your PC’s interface and a whole lot more.

First impressions of TuneUp Utilities 2013 are positive, then, and we’ll be putting the suite through its paces in a thorough review very soon. But if you’re the impatient type then there’s no need to wait: a 15-day trial of the new release is available now.
