CCleaner for Mac 1.08 adds support for Yosemite Developer Preview, improves browser cleaning

Piriform Ltd has released CCleaner for Mac 1.08, a minor update to the Mac version of its freeware cleaning tool. Unlike the Windows version, which is updated monthly, CCleaner for Mac’s updates are more sporadic -- this is the first new release since November last year.

The new version opens by adding support for the OS X 10.10 Yosemite Developer Preview, which should mean it’ll work with the final version when it’s released later this year, although a further update for official compatibility is likely.

The latest build also improves its browser-cleaning capabilities, officially adding support for the new Opera browser (version 15 or later) and extending its support of Google Chrome to cleaning saved passwords.

The update also comes with the promise of improved cookie detection and cleaning, and will now check for updates automatically on each launch (users can disable this via the Settings tab under Options).

The program’s architecture for handling and reporting exceptions has also been updated, which should help to make future builds more stable, while the Pro version gains its first exclusive feature: silent background updates.

The update is rounded off with Piriform’s signature minor graphical user interface tweaks and unspecified bug fixes.

CCleaner for Mac 1.08 is available now as a freeware download for Intel Macs running OS X 10.5 (Leopard) or later. A Professional version offering additional features is also available for $24.95.
